For a spring tide, stay on the Mont or near the shuttle plaza unless you have a car. The 18 spring-tide days from 10 September to December 2026 peak before **09:30** or after **19:00**. During the published autumn timetable, the last bus to Pontorson leaves the Mont by **18:15**. The Saint-Malo and Rennes coaches also leave before the evening peaks. Pontorson is closest. Saint-Malo suits a Brittany trip. Caen or Bayeux suits a Normandy landing-beaches itinerary. The tide time determines whether any of them works as a base. Start with the tide ------------------- From 10 September to 31 December 2026, the [spring tide list](/spring-tides-2026) has **18** days with a coefficient of 95 or higher. None has high water between 10:00 and 18:00. Morning peaks fall between **06:47 and 09:28**. Evening peaks fall between **19:08 and 21:51**. Those are SHOM predictions published through the Office de Tourisme. Wind and pressure can move the real water level. Arrive about two hours before high water if you want to watch the bay fill. Public transport can support a normal daytime visit. It does not stay for the autumn evening peaks in the cited 2026 timetables. A hotel on the Mont or beside the shuttle route removes that problem. Line 2 takes about **27 minutes**. The [2026 line 2 timetable](https://montsaintmichel.gouv.fr/medias/kmsm-mkt-guidehoraires-300326au111026-810.pdf) is valid from **30 March to 11 October**. Weekday buses leave Pontorson station at **09:00**, **11:40**, **12:35**, **14:00**, **18:20** and **19:05**. Friday adds a **19:20** departure. Saturday service starts at **11:00**, and Sunday service starts at **12:00**. The last return leaves the Mont at **18:00** Monday to Thursday, **18:15** Friday and **17:30** on weekends. A ticket costs **4.30 €**. The timetable moves some stops to Le Verger on specified tide dates, so read its footnotes before travel. That schedule misses every evening spring peak in its date range. It arrives after 17 morning peaks and one minute before the 29 September peak. For dates after 11 October, use the current access page rather than extending this timetable beyond its validity. The alternative is to sleep within walking distance. Hotels at the [mainland shuttle plaza are **2.5 km** from the rock](https://montsaintmichel.gouv.fr/acceder-au-mont-saint-michel/venir-au-mont-saint-michel). Hotels inside the walls are closer. Either gives you a route back after the buses to Pontorson have stopped. Saint-Malo: useful with a car ----------------------------- Saint-Malo works well for a Brittany itinerary. By car, you can leave in the late afternoon, park after **18:30**, and stay through an evening high water. The Keolis Armor [2026 brochure](https://keolis-armor.com/upload/pdf/Brochure-DMSM-10-MARS-NOV-26_VF_PAGE.pdf) shows one autumn round trip from Saint-Malo. It leaves at **09:15**, reaches the Mont at **10:15**, and returns at **15:30**. The timetable runs through **1 November**. It gives you a daytime visit but misses every evening spring peak. The Rennes coach leaves the Mont at **11:35**, **16:45** and **18:00** in the same brochure. It has the same limitation for an evening tide. Caen and Bayeux: plan a daytime visit ------------------------------------- Caen and Bayeux make sense when the landing beaches are the main purpose of the stay. Public transport reaches the Mont through Pontorson, but train times change by date. Price and check the complete journey rather than relying on a sample weekday. During the line 2 timetable through 11 October, the last bus leaves the Mont before the evening spring tides. A car makes an evening visit possible, but it also creates a long return after high water. The [Bayeux Tapestry Museum](https://www.bayeuxmuseum.com/en/the-bayeux-tapestry/) is closed for renovation until October 2027. Account for that if the museum is part of your reason for choosing Bayeux.
